Chartwell-Maple Grove Residents Association (CMGRA)

CMGRA is a volunteer-led, non-profit, non-partisan organization representing residents between the QEW and Lake Ontario, from Chartwell Road to Maple Grove Drive. As one of Oakville’s original neighbourhoods, we are known for our diverse homes and treasured urban forest.

Our mission:

•              Advocate for residents on local issues

•              Keep the community informed and engaged

•              Protect our environment, quality of life, and long-term sustainability

Key Priorities

Shaping Midtown’s Future
Our top priority is the responsible development of Midtown. We strongly support Official Plan Amendment 70 (OPA 70), which provides a balanced framework for density, infrastructure, parks, and liveability.

We oppose the Province’s Transit-Oriented Community (TOC) program as approved through recently issued Ministerial Zoning Orders, which impose excessive density without adequate infrastructure. We are working with Ward 3 Councillors and We Love Oakville to push for meaningful refinements that will hopefully reduce the density to an acceptable level.

Another Major Midtown Development
A second large Midtown project, the redevelopment of the former GE lands, is expected to come forward in 2026. While this proposed development appears vastly superior to the TOC, it highlights the urgent need for the Province to approve OPA 70 across all of Midtown. Without it, Midtown risks fragmented, ad hoc development and poorly planned infrastructure. So why hasn’t the province approved OPA70 for all of Midtown? We continue to press for answers and action.

Provincial Overreach
Provincial decisions on OPA 70 and the TOC will shape Oakville for decades. Provincially driven initiatives, including the TOC and proposed legislation such as Bill 100, risk undermining local democracy and concentrating decision-making at Queen’s Park. We strongly oppose this “overreach creep” and plan to respond to whatever the Province does next.

Responsible Spending & Taxes
If you don’t like automatic annual tax increases.  Neither do we. We advocate for transparency, accountability, and value for money budgeting, with a focus on not just curtailing property tax increases, but eliminating automatic increases.  CMGRA submitted comments on the Town’s proposed 2026 budget and proposed tax increase, and are planning to do so again for the 2027 budget.

Community Safety & Traffic
While Oakville remains relatively safe, and auto theft has declined in early 2026, concerns persist, and we continue to monitor the situation closely.  Traffic congestion, particularly around Cornwall and Trafalgar during peak hours, is worsening. Without proper planning and infrastructure investment, Midtown development risks turning today’s congestion into full gridlock.  We are actively working with our Ward 3 Councilors and We Love Oakville to push for practical solutions.

Community Engagement & Environment
We promote resident involvement through events like our annual Earth Day cleanup and ongoing communications. In 2026, we will launch a member survey to better understand community priorities.

Get Involved
CMGRA is strongest when residents are engaged. Attend meetings, share ideas, volunteer, or join the Board.
